Livestream: Talk »Literature in exile, resistance at home« with Yildiz Çakar, Hesen Ildiz, Fatma Savci, Karosh Taha and Halim Youssef
Berlin: Saturday, 24 July 2021, 17:00 – 19:00
Moderation: Bilal Ata Aktaş
Modern Kurdish literature was born in exile towards the end of the 20th century. The Kurdish language itself lacked any institutional education, due to the prevented and even forbidden further development, use and dissemination of the language, many battles were fought. Complementing its infancy with the work of a group of politically defeated but resistant people in the diaspora, the Kurdish language continues to maintain its uneven but always persistent identity. The language, which is prolific and more “comfortable” in the diaspora as a literary language, continues to be marginalized at home in Kurdistan. Therefore, the shadow of resistance as a notion remains above Kurdish literature, which seeks to look at its own society from a decolonial perspective.
Within the framework of »bê welat – the unexpected storytellers«, Yildiz Çakar, Hesen Ildiz, Fatma Savci, Karosh Taha, Helim Yûsiv – all authors from different generations and backgrounds – will get together, read passages from their works and exchange on the healing, transformative but also the uncanny face of literature. The conversation in Kurmancî will be streamed online.
